Andy Payne happened to be traveling through East Ely in August 1956. He captured No. 40 under steam for the first time since 1941 in preparation for the September festivities celebrating the golden (50th) anniversary of the Nevada Northern Railway.

Andy Payne was working for Los Angeles Transit at the time, but came up and chased the NNRy R&LHS 1957 excursion.

R&LHS April 1957 Excursion. Crossing Aultman Street in Central Ely. Andy Payne remembers waiting for the flagman and a car to get out of the way before he took the photograph. Jumbo Labate is the engineer and Alvin MacIntosh is in the gangway.
