Subjects emphasize (but are not limited to) the railroads, mining operations, and history of Ely, McGill, Ruth, Cherry Creek and many additional areas of the region. We miss you, Ron
Ron Healy (Ronald Howard Healy) of Ely died Tuesday, March 6, 2002, at his home. He was 73.

Ron was born July 29, 1928, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to Howard and Selma (Bjorkland) Healy. He attended public schools in Ashtabula, graduating high school in 1946.

He married Elizabeth E. Chontos in May, 1951, in Ashtabula.

Ron began his career in printing at the Star Beacon newspaper in Ashtabula. Moving later to Reno, he was employed by the Spidel Corp. as composing room foreman of the Nevada State Journal, before leaving printing to take up a career in photography. He moved to Ely in 1980, where he opened Ron Healy Photography, which later became the Martin/Healy Studio.

Ron served his country honorably from 1948 to 1952, achieving the rank of sergeant in the U.S. Army.

His hobbies were color photography, black and white photography, historical research, railroading and stamp collecting.

Ron was active in several historical societies, including the White Pine Historical & Archaeological Society. He was also a Master Mason in good standing in the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, of Rising Sun, Ashtabula, Ohio.

Ron is survived by sons, Dale A. (April) Healy, of Reno, and Mark Abbott, of Salida, Calif.; stepsons, Dana (Susan) Hanefeld, of South Bend, Ind.; and Chris (Laurie Brooks) Hanefeld, of Ely; and grandchildren.
